Artist Statement
Being an artist has always been a dream I have had since I was small, but I dismissed it as not being practical. The truth is that being an artist is not practical, but it is necessary, for it allows one to interpret the world and express it in a way that is meaningful. Now I realize that my dream has become a reality for me and I try to incorporate part of myself into my art. I think that some of the best art is made when the artist puts him or herself into the work.
Most of my work consists of my favorite mediums, graphite and charcoal. I have started to experiment with other mediums such as digital media and photography. Much of my art is either still-lifes or portraits, but I look for many other subject matter to capture. My art work is way for me to combined myself, what I understand, and what I believe, and put it into a physical piece. This piece then ends up representing me and is part of me.
Most of my work has been influenced by three things: my teachers, my surroundings and what I believe. My Catholic faith is a huge part of me and there for influences my art. My Surroundings include friends and family that are also a part of my life and have an impact on me. Lastly, Teachers influence me and my art for they help fine tune my work and encourage me to try new things.
I want to continue to learn and understand how to capture the world in my work and be able to put myself in the work. I am learning how to capture something so it makes sense to me and to the viewer. This is something I want to do with all my work whether it is charcoal piece or a photograph.
I find as developing my skill my work has a messy and spontaneous and style, that makes sense. This style is unique because it matches my personality.
There is one main thing that I want the viewer to see in my work. I want the viewer to see something that they can connect to or to relate to. I try to put myself in my work and therefore want the viewer to be able to connect that part of the work.
